Psychology of Behaviour Change - Health & Safety

A one-day workshop exploring the role of behavioural economics in the field of health and safety

Programme of Workshops | Cancellation Policy

Many of our health and safety systems and procedures are designed with the concept of a rational human being at its core, a person who will always make judged decisions that maximise self-interest. The theory stands that more information and training will encourage the rational human into safe working practices. The reality is that a lot of our human perceptions and mental processing is brilliantly 'faulty'. This workshop will help you to understand these so called faults and work with them, rather than against them.

This workshop has evolved from our Psychology of Health Behaviour workshop, which a number of people working in the field of health and safety have attended and they have considered it refreshing and very relevant to their area of work. It is for anyone working in the field of Health and Safety, Risk Management and Occupational Health. It will be most relevant for those who deliver workplace health promotion campaigns, design health and safety procedures for their workplace and who provide cascade training to their workforce on safe work practices.

WE EXPLORE THE FOLLOWING:

"" The four keys to motivation
"" What impact do beliefs and expectations have on engagement and decision making?
"" How can we harness our brains' naturally brilliant faults to be more effective with our messages and encourage healthy and safe behaviour?
"" Why are people naturally inclined to take risks on their long term health and how might we be unknowingly rewarding and encouraging risky behaviour?
"" How much does state of mind influence our decision making and how can we help people maintain safe working practices long after the training has been delivered?
"" Why health promotion is as important as health protection for long-term safety at work and how to provide health messages in a way that will encourage behaviour change.
